 Radha Devi
Radha Devi is 32 years old from the block and district of Kangra. She is one of the heads of the ENSS in Rakkar. She got married when she was 22 and left her husband five years later.
An alcoholic, he constantly beat her up and was very abusive until one day she had had enough and left. Radha Devi took her ten year old son with her and went back to her mother's place.
Although she does not keep in touch with her husband, he calls up his son once in a while and tells him to come back. Sometimes the boy goes to see him, but basically lives with Radha Devi.
Radha Devi's three brothers and one sister all live in her mother's house, too. However, she would like to make enough money to move out and stay at her own place.
She loves her work and is happy about the fact that she is actually helping other people and has no problems being alone. Radha Devi feels she is better off without her husband and absolutely free than when she was still with him. In the beginning there was some gossip in the village, but now people respect her decision and support her cause.
